Whole Foods slated to install 61 fuel cell forklifts in Landover, MD distribution centre
Whole Foods, a popular U.S.-based natural and organic supermarket - is scheduled to install 61 fuel cell forklifts at the company's Landover, MD distribution centre. Alliance Material Handling will supply the Crown forklift trucks that will be fitted with Plug Power GenDrive fuel cell systems. The 45 Class 3 pallet jack and 16 Class 2 standup reach trucks will replace lead-acid batteries models.
Whole Foods is partnering with GENCO Supply Chain Solutions for the project and the funding for the Plug Power fuel cell systems is part of a £3.71 million ($6.1 million) grant to GENCO by the U.S. Department of Energy through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
