Fuel Cells in Denmark: the supply chain comes together
According to a new report by Fuel Cell Today, the fuel cell supply chain in Denmark is increasingly coming together to commercialise PEM and SOFC for combined heat and power, backup power and transport applications.
The 2009 Survey of Denmark, published today, gives an comprehensive picture of the fuel cell sector in Denmark: an industry that is characterised by a good deal of co-operation between R&D organisations, the nascent supply chain, and end-user customers for a wide range of early market applications, including mCHP, UPS, and materials handling.
In the report, Fuel Cell Today Analysts Dr. Jonathan Butler and Anissa Dehamna say that Denmark has in effect an entire domestic supply chain for high and low temperature PEM and SOFC. The public and private sectors are increasingly working together under the auspices of the Danish Fuel Cell Partnership to translate R&D into commercial products. Citing recent examples of collaborative partnerships and the establishment of manufacturing facilities within Denmark, the report gives an overview of the current state of the industry and its potential over the next decade.
The Danish fuel cell industry is intricately associated with Denmark’s energy landscape, a landscape that is dominated by the two key pillars of North Sea oil and gas (an increasingly finite resource), and the wind industry, one of the world’s most successful renewable export industries. Seeking to reduce reliance on oil and gas, and also seeking to emulate the success of the wind industry, Denmark’s public and private sectors takes the fuel cell industry increasingly seriously.
A free version of the report is available from the Fuel Cell Today website. A more in-depth version, giving a detailed analysis of the supply chain, high temperature fuel cells, and 10-year market forecasts broken down by application, manufacturing, adoption, fuel and electrolyte is available in the Syndicated version, which can be purchased on the Fuel Cell Today website for GBP1,000.
