U.S. Senate Subcommittee approves £116M for DOE hydrogen fuel cell programme
The Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Energy and Water has approved $190 million for the hydrogen and fuel cell programme office which is part of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). Should this approval go through, it would restore the programme's funding for 2010 to 2009-levels. Politicians cited securing energy security using a mixed-bag approach including investing in efficiency, vehicles technologies, wind, and solar energy as well as hydrogen. The subcommittee bill will need to be aligned with the full Senate Appropriations Committee on Energy and Water before being harmonised with the House of Representatives version for a final vote. Bob Rose, Executive Director for the U.S. Fuel Cell Council has estimated that the final funding for the programme will likely fall between £66.3 million and £116 million ( $108 million and $190 million).
