Cornell University slated for £11.54 million grant for fuel cell research
Cornell University in Ithaca, New York is slated to receive £11.54 million ($17.5 million) from the federal stimulus bill to establish a new Energy Frontier Research Center.
The centre will include a multidisciplinary team – including Cornell’s existing Fuel Cell Institute – of 30 researchers and postgraduates who will be charged with studying, designing and developing fuel cells, batteries, photovoltaics and photo- electrochemical cells.
According to the university press office, Cornell is the first university to receive stimulus funding from the U.S. Department of Energy. The DOE’s energy centres are meant to address gaps in energy research in the United States by making the best use of available expertise across the country.
