Ceres Power Holding, plc completes Alpha phase of CHP product testing

Ceres Power Holding, plc and British Gas have confirmed that Ceres has successfully completed the Alpha testing phase of 1kW grid-connected combined heat and power (CHP) units. In order to pass the first round of testing, the units were tested on natural gas as is typically delivered by mains and under conditions representative of residential operating conditions. The CHP units met most of a typical home’s electricity requirements and also exported and imported electricity from the grid as required.

According to the Ceres press release, the CHP units integrated a fuel cell module with ancillary boiler components and as a result was able to meet the test home’s hot water and central heating needs as well. Being that the trials satisfied British Gas’ performance, size, weight, and regulatory compliance targets, British Gas has issued a £2m Alpha milestone payment to Ceres.
