6 Japan firms to launch home fuel cell sales

Six Japanese firms have said they will launch the Ene Farm brand home-use fuel cell system from May 1, it has been reported.  The six companies are Tokyo Gas, Osaka Gas Co., Nippon Oil Corp., Toho Gas Co., Saibu Gas Co. and Astomos Energy Corp., a joint venture between Idemitsu Kosan Co. and Mitsubishi Corp.

The Jiji Press reported on a joint news conference of the presidents of all six firms. They aim to sell a total of 5,000 units of the Ene Farm system in the first year.  Prices will start at 3.2 million yen. There are potentially up to 1.4 million yen per unit in government subsidies available for households.
