Tecnalia has unveiled the prototype of the H2Car, a fuel cell powered, hydrogen fuelled concept car designed by the ENERGY Unit at the Basque Technological Corporation.

The H2CAR is a hybrid driven by an electric motor, with the electricity produced from a 5kW PEM fuel cell, and a backup battery systems for energy peaks.

The vehicle is a prototype and the researchers at Tecnalia are working to improve its performances. Amongst future lines of research are:

New storage tanks and recharging systems directly from hydrogen.

Increases in the performance of the batteries.
