Intelligent Energy wins new cleaner fuel funding
Intelligent Energy (IE) announced on Monday that it has been awarded further US federal funding to advance its development of cleaner fuel technologies.
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has awarded IE $696,658 in Advanced Technology Program funding for its program to develop robust fuel flexible desulphurisation systems for clean power applications.
Last September, IE was selected by NIST, a division of the U.S. Department of Commerce, for a public-private initiative to identify promising clean energy technology prospects. The initial award involved a total $3M, including $1M in matching non-federal funding.
The IE program looks to develop a suite of technologies for compact, efficient and scalable desulphurisation of a wide range of distillate fuels at the point of use. As a result of this work IE said they expect to reduce sulphur pollution from sources such as the power generation, marine and transportation sectors as well as providing a cleaner route to the production of hydrogen from multiple fuels for use in fuel cells.
