Prodrive unveils new fuel cell auto technology
Automotive technology company Prodrive has developed a new hydrogen fuel cell controller in conjunction with Intelligent Energy.
The new production-ready ECU, known as PP150, was developed as part of a programme funded by the Technology Strategy Board and is currently being used to control a 50 kW fuel cell system developed by Loughborough-based company Intelligent Energy.
In a statement released yesterday Prodrive said the PP150 was "a first for the UK fuel cell industry".
Using proton exchange membrane technology, the new units are "robust to use in automotive applications".
The new unit, which the company claims is suitable for volume production, will be priced at around £250.
Prodrive is one of the largest developers of motor vehicle technology in the world, with annual sales of £100 million and operations in Europe, North America, Australia and the Asia-Pacific region.
