German researcher scoops Ceramic Fuel Cells prize

A German fuel cell researcher has been awarded a prize by Ceramic Fuel Cells, in recognition of his work concerning the development of solid oxide fuel cells.

Mr Helmut Kronemayer, who is described as a "promising" young researcher, will receive a cash prize, along with a trip to Australia to take part in a work experience programme with Ceramic.

Brendan Dow, managing director of Ceramic Fuel Cells said: "Ceramic Fuel Cells wants to reward excellence and encourage students to get involved in exciting clean energy technologies. We are also building our profile in Germany with leading researchers, of today and tomorrow."

Mr Kronemayer, who studied chemistry at the University of Heidelberg, has also completed a PhD and said he is honoured to receive recognition for his research work - adding that he is confident fuel cell development will provide the "right career path" for him.

Based in Melbourne, Australia, Ceramic Fuel Cells was formed in 1992 by the Commonwealth Science and Industry Organisation and a number of energy providers and leading industrial bodies, such as BHP Billiton.
