Fuel cells for the home planned by Matsushita
Panasonic-owned Matsushita Electric Industrial is aiming to have fuel cell technology ready for domestic use next year.
In a bid to create a cleaner source of domestic energy, the company is planning to offer fuel cell systems to homeowners in Japan in the year beginning April 2009, Reuters reports.
A spokesperson told the news provider that it is hoped the price of the systems can be kept below the 1 million yen ($9,892) mark.
Matsushita - which will be changing its name to Panasonic Corporation with effect from October 1st - has already made projections for sales in the country.
By March 2011, it expects to sell between 3,000 and 5,000 units, with a target of between 60,000 and 100,000 planned for March 2016.
Matsushita last year claimed to have developed a supply method for fuel cells in portable devices that halved the size of the unit.
