Crown receives $1 million fuel cell funding
Crown Equipment Corporation has been awarded $1 million to develop fuel cell-powered lift trucks.
The US company will use battery replacement fuel cells to power some of its trucks, with a view to adopting fuel cell use across most of its lifting range.
Privately owned Crown Equipment currently designs and produces around 85 per cent of its lift truck components.
The company, established in 1956, is the world's fifth largest manufacturer of lift trucks.
Crown's funding came as part of a series of grants announced by the Ohio Department of Development and Third Frontier Commission earlier this week.
Established in 2002, the Ohio Fuel Cell Initiative is a $103 million technology development programme, aimed at placing the state at the forefront of the fuel cell industry.
To date $70 million has been awarded to benefit fuel cell development projects across the Ohio area.
