Bac2 set to launch blank plates for fuel cell prototyping

UK-based fuel cell development company Bac2 is to launch its first blank bipolar plates for polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM) fuel cells.

The company plans to launch the plates during Hannover Messe 2008.

Bac2's latest technology is based on the company's electrically conductive polymer Electrophen and can be "machined more simply than metal plates, making them ideal for fuel cell prototyping and development work".

The company claims that its Electrophen plates offer significant savings without compromising on performance and adds that the conductivity of the plates exceeds the specifications set by the US Department of Energy.

Bac2 says that no post-processing of the plates, such as surface machining, is required to increase conductivity.

Established in 2002, Bac2 is a privately held company and receives funding from investors including London Seed Capital, London Business Angels and grant funding from the Carbon Trust and the DTI.
