Adaptive Materials receives fuel cell funding

Fuel cell technology group Adaptive Materials has been awarded $4 million in funding to develop fuel cell technology for use in military robotics.

The company has received a $2.35 million Small Business Innovative Research grant, in addition to funding of from the US Army Tank and Automotive Command.

Adaptive Materials will continue to work on its portable solid oxide fuel cell technology, which it is developing in collaboration with the Air Force Research Laboratory at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.

"The delivery of truly portable power, power that is lightweight and long-lasting is central to Adaptive Materials' work with the US military," Adaptive Materials chief business officer Michelle Crumm commented.

Last month Ms Crumm was presented with the 2008 enterprising woman of the year award by Enterprising Women magazine, in recognition of her role as a business leader.

Under the leadership of Ms Crumm Adaptive Materials has significantly increased its production of solid oxide fuel cells.
