Fuel cell vehicles in the UK 'a matter of when, not if'

It is only a matter of time before fuel cell vehicles are introduced in the UK, it has been claimed.

A spokesperson for Honda told the Times that it is a matter of "when, not if" vehicles such as Honda's FCX Clarity make their UK debut.

The spokesperson's confidence is based on the fact that Honda predicts energy companies will soon respond to demand and establish hydrogen fuelling stations in the UK, thereby paving the way for fuel cell vehicle adoption.

Even if hydrogen fuelling stations fail to appear, Honda has developed a home energy station for fuel cell vehicle users.

"This is not just a show car. This car will be on the road very soon," commented Sachito Fujimoto, the Honda senior chief engineer, on the Honda FCX Clarity.

As well as being environmentally-friendly, the FCX Clarity has been praised for its performance, with many reviewers noting that its operation is comparable to petrol engine alternatives.

Indeed, its acceleration is on par with a 2.4 litre petrol saloon, according to the Times.
