Genesis receives Phase II grant from US DoE

Genesis Fueltech has been awarded a Phase II grant by the US Department of Energy (DoE), it has been reported.

Around $750,000 in funding - which will be provided over a two-year period - has been afforded for the development of new fabrication processes and structures for hydrogen purification membranes.

The overall aim of the initiative - which is entitled Membrane structures for hydrogen separation - is to create low-cost membranes which can be used in the hydrogen-rich gas streams purification process and in hydrogen generator systems for the on-demand manufacture of ultra-pure hydrogen.

David DeVries, Genesis' CTO, is optimistic that project will produce positive results.

"All indications are that we will be able to build membrane modules in all sizes, including large systems for processing industrial volumes of purified hydrogen," he said, according to Fuelcellworks.

"Our early Phase II work has yielded a purification module that has operated for a continuous 1,500 hours with no degradation in performance - in fact it just seems to keep getting better."
