DoE awards grant to MU professors for hydrogen storage research
The team of professors faced stiff competition for funding from other study groups, especially as the Department of Energy's (DoE's) own request for backing was not fully supported.
"We asked for $17.5 million (£8.5 million), we got $4 million (£1.95 million)," commented Jane Zhu, a director at the DoE who was concerned with the selection of winning applications, told the Missourian.
"We could choose very few people - only the truly top proposals got picked."
However, the MU proposal was well received and was fully supported by the DoE.
"They didn't even cut our funding. We got all that we requested," confirmed team member Carlos Wexler.
"I was very proud of our proposal."
The group - which also comprises Peter Pfeifer and M Frederick Hawthorne - will use the money to back their effort to store hydrogen by using carbon to store hydrogen in a dense state.
