Micro fuel cells could be 'mainstream' by 2010
While there have been a number of breakthroughs in the micro fuel cell arena recently, Paul Zimmerman, chief executive of Vancouver-based micro fuel cell developer Angstrom Power, has admitted that these guarantees are often not put into practise.
The micro fuel cell industry "has been long in promises, but short on deliveries", Mr Zimmerman said, according to the EE Times.
However, Mr Zimmerman does expect that by 2010 micro fuel cells will have become more of a conventional product.
"I think 2010 will be a watershed year," he confirmed.
According to Angstrom Power, the micro fuel cell market will be worth $50 million to $100 million in sales in 2010, and $100 million to $200 million by 2011.
There are currently around 30 to 40 competitors in the micro fuel cell market, including Angstrom, Aquafairy, Teckion, Millennium Cell, MTI and Toshiba.
