Fuel cell manufacturer part of group behind opening of Denmark's first hydrogen station
The project is part of a joint initiative between fuel cell development company IRD, Lolland's local council and project development firm Baltic Sea Solutions.
In a bid to solve the problem of what to do with excess energy produced by the country's windmills, the generated electricity will be used by the new plant to produce hydrogen - another clean energy power source, but one which is more easily stored.
The hydrogen will then be used by fuel cell vehicles, power companies or by individuals as a source of power for their homes.
In tandem with the opening of the new plant, Lolland Council and Baltic Sea Solutions also held a two-day conference on renewable energy called 'community testing facilities - accelerating climate change solutions'.
The event was attended by a number of hydrogen power researchers and advanced technologies manufacturers.
