Toshiba develops fuel cell music player prototype
The company has unveiled the headphone-style prototype, which features fuel cells and a fuel tank built in to one of the ear-phones, according to Nikkei Electronics.
This is balanced with the music player technology in the other headphone. According to Toshiba, the music player can achieve continuous music playback extending to more than ten hours on four to five millilitres of methanol.
However, Nikkei reports that the system will probably be commercialised with a hybrid power system featuring a lithium-ion battery alongside the fuel cell in order to deal with load fluctuation.
Toshiba also plans to include features such as Bluetooth and a fuel tank capacity gauge in the finished model.
The model was displayed at the 3GSM World Congress 2007 event in Japan.
