Volkswagen (VW) produces in excess of five million cars, trucks, and vans each year. In addition to its own brand it owns AUDI, Lamborghini, Bentley, SEAT and SKODA, and has a 34 per cent stake in Swedish truck maker Scania. It operates plants worldwide. Together with Swiss Paul Schere Institute (PSI), VW unveiled its first fuel cell car in November 2000, the Bora HyMotion. Fuelled by liquid hydrogen it has a top speed of 140km/h and a range of about 350km. Volkswagen has also been involved with the European Union funded CAPRI project to produce a methanol fuel cell vehicle.
In April 2004, VW presented a people carrier equipped with a PEM fuel cell auxiliary power unit (APU).
