Toshiba, the Japanese electronics manufacturer is working on small fuel cells which eventually could replace batteries in portable applications, such as laptops, cameras or mobile phones. In March 2003, the company announced the first DMFC for portable PCs. In October 2003, Toshiba presented a 1W DMFC which can provide energy for up to 20 hours with just one 25cc fuel cartridge. Toshiba expects to commercialize DMFC for both portable PCs and handheld products within 2005.
