IRD (Innovation, Research & Development) Fuel Cell A/S is an independent high technology company devoted to research, development and engineering in fuel cell materials, fuel cells and fuel cell systems. It has been involved in national Danish and European projects, and is active in the development of PEMFC and DMFC technology. It was involved in Fiat's construction of a prototype fuel cell vehicle, providing the fuel cell stack, hydrogen storage and controls, and has developed PEMFC and DMFC stacks.

- In November 2002, IRD Fuel Cell A/S signed a co-operation contract with European Fuel Cell GmbH for development and production of fuel cells and system components for European Fuel Cell GmbH's home energy center.
