- Organisation Description
BMW is a major German automotive manufacturer. BMW has been exploring the potential of hydrogen as a fuel in internal combustion engines for decades and has built a demonstration fleet of hydrogen-fuelled cars, but is not at present developing fuel cell powered cars. The company has now already developed the fourth generation of hydrogen-fuelled test vehicles that have proved themselves in practice tests, among others during the Munich Airport demonstration project and the EIHP project.
BMW is, however, working with Delphi Automotive Systems to develop a solid oxide fuel cell as an auxiliary power unit. Incorporating an SOFC made by Global Thermoelectric, the first vehicle using such a system was unveiled in Spring 2001.- Partners
