Baxi Innovatech, formerly European Fuel Cell (EFC), formerly linked to Hamburg Gas Consult, now owned by the British Baxi Group, develops and produces residential PEM fuel cell heaters. The company’s natural gas powered, 1.5kW beta unit are currently being field tested.

The company has signed a co-operation agreement with IRD Fuel Cell for development and production of fuel cells and system components. In July 2003, EFC has opened a new 23 million Euro research facility in Hamburg, Germany.

The company's system is optimised for a one-family house and combines a 1.5 kW electrical output with an 8 kW thermal output.

European Fuel Cell GmbH inaugurated a development center for fuel cell heating appliances in Hamburg on 14 July 2003.

Partners
In November 2002, IRD Fuel Cell A/S signed a co-operation contract with European Fuel Cell GmbH for development and production of fuel cells and system components for European Fuel Cell GmbH's home energy center.
