In March 2011, we reported on the opening of Long Island’s first hydrogen filling station, which is providing hydrogen for two Toyota FCEVs and can also produce a hydrogen-CNG blend being used to fuel a shuttle bus. In December 2011 this project moved a step closer to achieving its goal of producing green hydrogen with the installation of a 100 kW wind turbine. Using Department of Energy funding through the Recovery and Reinvestment Act it is hoped the new turbine will enable the hydrogen station to operate independently from the grid.
