Air Products Opens Hydrogen Station at Existing Shell Gas Forecourt in Hamburg
06 Aug 2012
Air Products has opened a SmartFuel containerised hydrogen filling station at an existing Shell gas station on the Bramfelder road in Hamburg-Bramfeld, Germany. The SmartFuel station can deliver 40 kilograms of hydrogen per day, enough to support a fleet of 50 vehicles. The hydrogen dispensed is by-product from industrial processes and is tanked to the site in a similar fashion to conventional fuels. The station is modular in design and can be expanded in the future dependant on demand.
The placement of hydrogen pumps at existing gas stations is an important step in the consumer acceptance of hydrogen fuel and additionally is a more affordable method of building up hydrogen infrastructure than the construction of dedicated hydrogen stations.
