Nokia Siemens Networks’ Fuel Cell System Wins Emerging Technologies Award at CTIA 2013

A fuel cell solution for telecommunications base station backup power won an Emerging Technologies award at CTIA 2013TM. The system, developed jointly by Nokia Siemens Networks and Ballard Power Systems, was awarded under the “Green Telecom and Smart Energy Solutions” category.

Fuel cell systems such as this offer long runtimes and allow operators to minimise network downtime in case of a commercial power breakdown. Fuelled with a methanol-water mix, they have a considerably lower carbon footprint in comparison with traditional alternatives.
