Ceramic Fuel Cells Limited (CFCL) is to install up to 600 BlueGen 1.5 kW fuel cells across German distribution grids by 2015. CFCL has signed a letter of intent for a strategic partnership with Alliander AG, a German distribution grid operator and early adopter of the BlueGen product, the first part of which involves the deployment of these systems.

Deployments will initially focus on the Heinsberg region of North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) before moving to the national level in a second phase. Alliander hopes to take advantage of national and regional subsidy schemes to make the systems more financially attractive to its clients. Earlier this week CFCL announced the first BlueGen to be sold under the NRW government’s micro-CHP subsidy, which covers 45–65% of the system’s fundable purchase price.

“We were impressed with BlueGEN‘s almost 100 per cent operational availability”, says Ton Doesburg, CEO of Alliander AG. “After three years of positive experience, we will now move to the next level and actively support the deployment of this innovative and environmentally friendly technology across our grids.”
