17 Apr 2013

HySA HydrogenA national Hydrogen and Fuel Cell (HFC) supply chain workshop was held on 12 April 2013 at the University of the Western Cape (UWC), with participation from South African industries, SMEs and policy makers.

The workshop, organised by the Hydrogen South Africa (HySA) Systems Competence Centre at UWC, brought together prominent local and international players in the HFC sector including Air Liquide, Eskom, Areva and Melex Electrovehicles, with the aim of creating a platform to establish a network of companies for a HFC supply chain in South Africa.

HySA has recently entered a new phase of intensive research and development, as well as component/system prototyping and manufacturing. The national workshop was held to mark the beginning of this phase and to facilitate the manufacturing of hydrogen and fuel cell components and systems.

New and smaller players in HFC technologies heard about safety of hydrogen use in different environments, a Southern African perspective on electric vehicles and the public understanding of and engagement with HFC technology in South Africa, among other discussions.
