Crown FLTPlug Power has announced the sale of 65 GenDrive fuel cell units to Ace Hardware Corporation for use in its newest distribution centre in Texas. The fuel cells beat competition from both lead acid and fast charge batteries meeting the company’s requirements of sustainability, operation cost and space utilisation at the new facility. Crown Equipment Corp. will supply the fuel cells for the distribution centre which will be located in Wilmer, Texas and is scheduled for completion early in 2014.

Plug Power's CEO, Andy Marsh, said: "We look forward to working with Ace Hardware as yet another new customer in the Plug Power line-up. Over the next six to twelve months Ace Hardware will see improved productivity, lower electrical bills and more floor space available for storing goods."

Dave Forte, Director of Distribution Support and Engineering, Ace Hardware Corporation added: "Ace Hardware is pleased to align with Plug Power, an organisation that will help drive our commitment to clean energy. The implementation of a hydrogen fuel cell based application for our material handling equipment advances our strategy to provide the highest level of support to our customers and the communities that we serve, and that includes distribution centres that are focused on sustainability."
