    German Study Shows Expected Benefits from Fuel Cells for Home Heating and Power

    The study estimates that in 2020 a retrofitted fuel cell micro-CHP will cut household GHG emissions by 21–40%. Energy costs will be on a par with a combination of gas condensing boilers and solar power. Economic value of fuel cell micro-CHP adoption in Germany is estimated at between €0.4 billion and €2.5 billion, with 3,000 to 18,000 new jobs created.

    North-Rhine Westphalia Government Launches Capital Subsidy for micro-CHP

    The German State of North-Rhine Westphalia has launched a capital subsidy scheme for commercial customers and energy service companies who install highly efficient micro-CHP products of less than 50 kilowatts. This scope includes fuel cell micro-CHP systems.

    RWE Building Power-to-Gas Pilot Plant in Ibbenbüren

    German power producer RWE has started the construction of a power-to-gas demonstration plant in Ibbenbüren. The facility will convert excess renewable electricity to hydrogen using a 100 kW electrolyser, for injection into the gas grid.

    MEPs, political advisors and other stakeholders have had the chance to test-drive six different fuel cell cars, from Daimler, Honda, Hyundai, Intelligent Energy, Opel and Toyota. Refuelling has been taking place at a mobile hydrogen station, provided for the occasion by Air Liquide.
