21 May 2012

Ian Marchant, Chief Executive of SSE, test drove a Hyundai ix35 at SSE’s company headquarters in Perth, Scotland last Friday as the fuel cell cars visited en-route to a ride and drive at the All Energy 2012 exhibition and conference taking place this week in Aberdeen.

The car is one of two Hyundai ix35 fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEV) used by the European Commission as official demonstration vehicles to promote hydrogen fuel cell technology.

SSE is the UK’s largest non-nuclear electricity generator with over 11,360 MW of electricity generation capacity in the UK and Ireland, and it is also one of the UK's leading renewable electricity generators with a total generation capacity of 3,020 MW. It is interested in the production of hydrogen from renewable electricity for use as a transport fuel and SSE is involved in UKH2Mobility which is assessing the timescales and costs of rolling out public hydrogen infrastructure in time for the commercial launch of FCEV from 2015.
