Greek fuel cell manufacturer and integrator Tropical S.A. is to provide 5 kW natural gas fed domestic combined heat and power (micro-CHP) fuel cells for 500 new homes in Greece. Over the next three years, ASPATE S.A., a construction firm and developer of large-scale energy projects, will install the Tropical GreenGen NG-5 systems into 500 ‘green energy homes’, which will also include photovoltaic and geothermal energy solutions. The new eco-houses will enjoy complete energy autonomy.

“ASPATE plans to develop 5000 such residential units by 2020 all built according to thenceforth generally accepted eco-friendly standards” said ASPATE President and CEO Konstantinos Aslanidis. With economic uncertainty rife in the domestic market Aslanidis remarked that "We see a great opportunity in the second-home market as an increasing number of North Europeans chooses to have a second home or retire in sunny Greece."

Tropical, who boast a wide range of fuel cell products, will present its GreenGen NG-5 later this month at the Group Exhibit Hydrogen + Fuel Cells trade fair at the Hannover Messe in Germany.
