New Holland Updates NH2 Fuel Cell Tractor
22 Nov 2011
New Holland Agriculture has announced the release of an updated NH2 hydrogen-powered fuel cell tractor, which was previewed at Hannover’s Agritechnica show last week.
Derived from the company’s T6.140 production tractor, the new NH2 is suitable for soil preparation, seeding, baling, transport and front loader applications. The updated model offers significant improvements over its predecessor, including: three fuel cell stacks with a combined output of 100 kW, up from two stacks and 50 kW; an 8.2 kg 350 bar hydrogen tank; double the rated power and torque of the on-board electric motors – 100 kW and 950 Nm, respectively; a maximum power output of 96%. These improvements bring the tractor in line with conventional tractors of the same size.
The updated tractor will debut at La Bellota farm in Venaria near Turin next summer. La Bellota is New Holland’s first energy independent farm – a concept that aims to have farms produce electricity from natural sources with a low environmental impact with excess stored as hydrogen, which can then be used to fuel NH2 tractors.
