Coca-Cola and Linde Launching Hydrogen Station at North Carolina Site

26 Apr 2011

Coca-Cola Bottling Co. Consolidated and Linde North America have announced that from June 2011 Coca-Cola's distribution centre in Charlotte, North Carolina will begin using a Linde hydrogen fuelling system.

The new system will feature three indoor dispenser stations and will be used to fuel 40 forklift trucks powered by Plug Power's GenDrive system. This is the fulfilment of an order placed with Plug Power in October 2009 which had an original delivery estimate of early 2010 (link). The reason for the delay is unknown.

This latest fuel cell application by Coca-Cola continues to bolster the company's green image and follows the use of UTC cells at its New York production facility and Bloom SOFCs at its Odwalla packaging plant. The company recently placed another order with Plug Power for 37 GenDrive units to be used at its San Leandro, California distribution centre.
