The Zero Emission Conference is an annual event organised by the Norwegian Zero Emission Resource Organization (ZERO), which was formed to tackle the threat of climate change and promote the view that emission-free alternatives exist for all forms of energy use. The conference is the largest of its kind in Scandinavia and attracts high-profile speakers and attendees from around the world. Speakers at ZERO11 included Connie Hedegaard, the European Commissioner for Climate Action, and Former Governor of California Arnold Schwarzenegger.

The first day of the conference offered a broad perspective on climate change and addressed how the global economy can be geared towards reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The second day focused on the specific solutions being applied to this issue in Norway and the rest of the world, including the HyNor (Hydrogen in Norway) project and the development of fuel cell vehicles and aircraft.

In addition to a brief overview of the points made by speakers during the first day, this report summarises the fuel cell content of the conference: the session on HyNor, an update from the German Aerospace Centre (DLR), and a presentation by Katsuhiko Hirose, Project General Manager, Toyota Fuel Cell System Engineering, in which progress towards commercialisation is reported.
